TL;DR. Menton is a tech-conference desert — its Palais de l’Europe books medical and scientific congresses (JAS, PILM, ICQC), not IT [1]. But it’s a 10-minute train ride from Monaco and ~35 minutes from Nice, so you can base a weekend in Menton and step out for Ready For IT in Monaco (2–4 Jun) [5], WAIB Summit (9–10 Jun) [7], WAICF in Cannes (12–13 Feb) [9], Riviera DEV in Sophia Antipolis (6–8 Jul) [12] or the ETSI conferences year-round [14].
What’s actually in Menton
Almost nothing tech. The town’s main convention venue is the Palais de l’Europe, a 3,000 m² Belle Époque hall that books mostly medical and scientific congresses — quantum chemistry (ICQC), lymphoma imaging (PILM), hospital architecture (JAS), and similar — none of which are IT or developer-focused [1]. The flagship recurring event there in 2026 is the Journées de l’Architecture en Santé (12–14 October), aimed at architects and hospital engineers [2] [3]. Sciences Po Menton’s campus does run public conferences, but it specialises in Middle East / Mediterranean politics — useful if that’s your beat, irrelevant if you want IT [4].
If you came to Menton expecting a software event, you’ve come to the wrong town. If you came to Menton for the gardens, the lemons, or Mirazur, you can still bolt on a Riviera tech day-trip without moving hotels.
The tech events reachable from a Menton base (2026)
Distances are train-from-Menton along the coastal TER line. Sophia Antipolis is the only inland venue and needs a train-plus-bus hop via Antibes [21].

How to pick by visit window
- Going in February. Anchor on WAICF in Cannes (12–13 Feb) [9] or the ETSI AI & Data Conference in Sophia Antipolis the same week (9–11 Feb) [15]. Generalist AI crowd → WAICF; standards/telco/infra crowd → ETSI.
- Going in April. Three back-to-back: ETSI UCAAT (14–16) [16], WAiFF (21–22) [10], and CUG (26–30) [11] — pick by interest, not timing.
- Going in June. Two days apart in Monaco: Ready For IT (2–4) [5] for an enterprise-IT decision-maker week, WAIB Summit (9–10) [7] for Web3/AI/digital-assets. Either is a same-day round-trip from Menton via the 11-minute coastal train [18].
- Going in early July. Azur Tech Summer (2 Jul) [13] and Riviera DEV (6–8 Jul) [12] are both at SKEMA Sophia Antipolis — bundle them into one Sophia mini-trip with a hotel in Antibes, since the bus connection from Nice eats time twice a day [21].
- Going in October. ETSI Security (19–22) [14] and IASP World Conf (27–30) [17] bracket the month; JAS at the Palais de l’Europe (12–14) [2] is the only Menton-native option but is a healthcare-architecture audience, not IT.
- Going at any other time. Nothing major lines up — fall back to the year-round options below or accept that this trip isn’t a conference trip.
Year-round / lower-commitment options
- French Tech Côte d’Azur publishes a rolling calendar of pitches, meetups and community evenings across Nice and Sophia [23]. Best single page to check before any visit.
- Telecom Valley runs SophiaConf (open-source, ~1,000 attendees, summer) plus year-round “Tech Events” workshops at SophiaTech [24].
- French Riviera Software Craftsmanship Community on Meetup runs evening sessions on TDD, DDD, clean code — small, technical, in Nice/Sophia [22].
- Monaco’s standalone AI conference circuit (2025 saw an AI Summit at the Principality with global speakers) tends to be announced 2–3 months ahead; check Invest in Côte d’Azur for new editions [25].
One caveat on “based in Menton”
The coastal rail line is fast but it’s a single line — last-train-back times tightening around 22:30–23:30 east of Nice will cut into Cannes/Sophia evening receptions. For events that run into the evening (Riviera DEV after-parties, WAIB Summit’s Yacht Club dinners), expect to either taxi back (~€80 from Monaco, €150+ from Cannes) or sleep one night at the venue city. WAIB’s evening events at Yacht Club de Monaco are invite-only family-office dinners [8]; if you’re not on the list, the 11-minute train back to Menton is the right call.
