Decision. Book one of Maison Colette’s own 5 deluxe rooms — they sit literally above the restaurant, are €305/room incl. breakfast, and are only sold with a dinner reservation [1]. If they’re full, the closest real walks are Tongerlo Abbey’s gastenkwartier (0.94 km, ~12 min — but minimum multi-night and quasi-monastic) [10][15] and B&B Villa Zonneweelde (1.01 km, ~14 min) [5][14]. Everything else is a 20–26 min walk into Westerlo centre — fine in dry weather, less fun in March rain.
Anchor point
Maison Colette is at De Trannoyplein 17, 2260 Westerlo — the Tongerlo deelgemeente of Westerlo, on the small square next to the Tongerlo church, ~879 m from Tongerlo Abbey [2]. Two Michelin stars in the current guide; the property is a renovated former physician’s residence with five upstairs guestrooms [3].
Distances below are OSRM foot-routing from De Trannoyplein 17 — i.e. the actual walking route a phone would give you, not straight-line.

Why the on-site guesthouse is the right answer
Three reasons compound:
- You’ve already met the booking precondition. The 5 rooms can only be reserved alongside a dinner reservation [1] — and you’re booking the Saturday-evening dinner anyway. Nobody else gets the rooms without making the same commitment, so availability is essentially gated to people in your situation.
- Wine pairings. A two-star dinner with the pairing is genuinely impaired if you’re driving — or expensive if you’re calling a taxi back to Westerlo centre at 23:30 (post-midnight, in Tongerlo, no Uber).
- The product itself. Each room has a double bed, desk, coffee machine, minibar, safe, robes, slippers, and breakfast served in the room — or in Salon Anna if you’ve booked more than one room [1]. For €305 incl. breakfast it’s priced like a city-centre boutique hotel, not a Michelin add-on.
When the guesthouse won’t work
Five rooms book out far in advance. Fallbacks, in order:
- Villa Zonneweelde — 14 min walk, the only true “walking back from dinner in heels” option besides the abbey [5][14]. Pricing isn’t published — phone +32 474 32 49 93 or email info@villazonneweelde.be.
- B&B Carpe Diem — 21 min walk, only 2 rooms but consistent 5★ reviews [6][7][16]. Bookable on Booking.com or directly.
- Hotel Geerts — the only hotel in true walk-back range (1.97 km, 26 min) [11][12][18]. 18 rooms, so availability is much less of a problem; it’s on Westerlo’s main square so you get morning-coffee infrastructure on the doorstep. 26 minutes is the long edge of “walkable” — fine in May, factor weather.
What to skip
- Tongerlo Abbey gastenkwartier is technically closest at 0.94 km, but it isn’t a hotel: it’s a working Norbertine monastery whose guest quarters are for “reflection, faith deepening or rest”, requires multi-night bookings, expects you in the refectory and at liturgy, and won’t take walk-ins [10][15]. Not the vibe for a Michelin weekend.
- B&B Butch (5.94 km) and B&B Crea Els (4.0 km, Oevel) are listed by Toerisme Westerlo [4] but neither is walkable from De Trannoyplein [19][20]. Cheaper (€95–€100) and pleasant if you have a car, but they fail the brief.
- Hotel Vivaldi — listed by Toerisme Westerlo [4] but described elsewhere as ~5.5 km from Tongerlo Abbey, a 10-minute drive — out of scope.
