Decision — Book a room at Il Boscareto Resort & Spa [1]. La Rei Natura is inside Boscareto, so on-site is the only true walking-distance lodging. The historic village (where the picturesque B&Bs sit) is 1.9 km away, a 25-min uphill walk on a narrow rural road [5] [6] — fine in daylight, not realistic after a multi-hour tasting menu with wine. If Boscareto is full or out of budget, plan a car/driver.
The geography problem
La Rei Natura sits at Via Roddino 21, in the Ornato frazione south of Serralunga d’Alba, inside Il Boscareto Resort & Spa [4] [1]. It was promoted to its third Michelin star in the 2026 Italian guide — Italy’s only new 3-star that year, about 26 months after the restaurant opened [2] [3] [20].
The historic village — castle, piazza, the small B&Bs — is uphill, 1.2 mi / ~1.9 km north [6]. Trip.com clocks it as ~25 min on foot, or 5 min by car [5]. The village itself is steep cobblestone in a radial layout [22], which makes the descent in dressy shoes after a 10-course menu its own small adventure.
→ Translation: “walking distance to La Rei Natura” effectively means staying at Boscareto. Treat everything else as a “I’ll drive / be driven” option.
Option A — Stay at Il Boscareto (the obvious answer)
49 rooms and suites — Classic, Deluxe, Junior Suite, Terrace Junior Suite, Suite, Terrace Suite [4]. La Sovrana Spa, indoor pool, 62-bay covered parking with EV charging, two restaurants (La Rei Natura + the casual Il Sunsì Bistrot) [4]. TripAdvisor pegs standard rooms at roughly $524–$870/night on average; the resort takes the elevator-accessible underground car park seriously and breakfast is reliably praised [7]. Paid shuttle available to/from the nearest train station [23].
The pitch writes itself: walk down to dinner, walk back up to your room. Spa the morning after. The vineyard you’re staring at from the terrace is Batasiolo, owned by the same family that owns the resort.
Option B — Sleep in the medieval village (drive 5 min to dinner)
Walking distance to the castle [21], not to La Rei Natura. Best if you want to wake up in the storybook village and have arranged a car/taxi for the dinner round-trip.
- Cà ‘d Calin Casa nel Borgo — Piazza Umberto I 3, right under the castle. Guesthouse, ~$173–232/night, a perfect 5.0 on TripAdvisor [9] [24]. The most “village” address you can get.
- Casa Cucco — 2-bed/1-bath apartment owned by Tenuta Cucco, just above the San Sebastiano church at the village entry. Sleeps 4, terrace with Langhe view, kitchen [10]. Good fit for two couples.
Option C — Nearby agriturismi & wine resorts (drive both ways)
All within 1–2 km of the village but not foot-friendly back from Boscareto at night.
- Antico Podere Tota Virginia — Loc. Baudana 69, converted farmhouse with pool, panoramic terrace, on-site restaurant overlooking the castle [11]. 5-min drive to Serralunga.
- Agriturismo I Grappoli — Borgata Parafada 5; 1.4 km from the castle, 1.2 km from Tenuta Cucco. 4.9/5 with breakfast included [8] [12].
- Cascina Meriame — Loc. Meriame 1; five rooms + two apartments on the Meriame cru, infinity pool facing the hills. ~1.1 km from the centre [13].
- Garesio Wine Resort — Loc. Sordo 1, where the Cerretta and Gianetto crus meet. Cellar tours, pool, wellness centre. Perfect 5.0 (small sample) [8] [15].
- La Rosa dei Vini — Loc. Parafada 4, six rooms on a vineyard hilltop, family-run hotel + trattoria [16]. Cheapest of the bunch; trattoria, not boutique.
- Albergo Ristorante Trattoria Del Castello — Loc. Baudana 16, 7 rooms in a 3-star with restaurant. The most “old-school” option, 3.8/5 — pick on price, not vibe [8] [14].
Option D — Fontanafredda / Villaggio Narrante (a different base entirely)
If you’d rather sleep inside the Fontanafredda wine estate (Disguido and Guido restaurants on-site, walkable from your room), three properties share Via Alba 15 on the opposite side of Serralunga from Boscareto — Cascina Galarej (boutique, spa), Le Case dei Conti Mirafiore (14 rooms in a historic Mirafiore building), and Foresteria delle Vigne (11 rooms, ~$287+/night) [17] [18] [19]. This is its own self-contained ecosystem; you’re still driving to La Rei Natura (~3 km across the hill).

If you can’t get a room at Boscareto
Three workable plays, in priority order:
- Book a B&B in the village (Cà ‘d Calin, Casa Cucco) and pre-arrange a private car/taxi to and from the resort. Local taxis are scarce; ask your host to organise it, or request the resort’s paid shuttle [23] — 5 minutes each way.
- Book any of the agriturismi in Option C and bring a designated driver — the wine list is the point of being in Barolo country, so don’t plan on driving yourself home.
- Stay further afield in Alba (~10 km / 15 min) where taxi supply is better, and lose the “weekend in Serralunga” feel.
