What "taxi range" means here
Distances are measured from Il Boscareto in Serralunga d'Alba. Public buses on the Langhe ridges effectively stop after dinner, so plan on a pre-booked car. Local operators that cover all properties below: LangheInTaxi / NCC Bellero (+39 335 5862890, 06:00–23:00)[22] and Taxi Barolo / private NCC[23]. As a fare anchor, Barolo→Alba taxi (14.6 km) runs €18–23[21]; a Serralunga short-hop to a neighbouring village is typically €15–25 one-way.

The properties in detail
Tota Virginia Antico Podere
Early-20th-century podere restored as a 4-star with a panoramic pool, on-site Piedmontese restaurant, and balconies looking straight at Serralunga's castle. Five Comfort, five Superior, three Junior Suite — most face the pool[3]. The closest "alternative" to Il Boscareto without leaving the village.
Cascina Galarej
Old farmhouse from 1867 rebuilt into a 4-star wine resort & spa on the Fontanafredda Villaggio Narrante estate[5]. Exposed brickwork and vaulted ceilings inside; designer furniture mixed with historical relics that belonged to King Victor Emmanuel II. Heated indoor/outdoor pool, Finnish sauna, treatments with Barbera and Nebbiolo grape must[4].
Le Case dei Conti Mirafiore
An albergo diffuso spread across 1930s buildings originally housing Fontanafredda's winery workers and their families[6]. Each accommodation keeps its rural character; interiors are an Italian-design clinic — Poliform furniture, Rubelli fabrics, Artemide lighting, Gessi bathrooms. Cellar tours of the 19th-century Fontanafredda vaults included on request.
Foresteria delle Vigne
Fontanafredda's former vine nursery, now a small boutique with 11 rooms each named after a Fontanafredda wine. Classic-elegant furnishings, woodland-facing terraces, courtesy products made from the estate's own wines[7]. Same UNESCO-listed Villaggio Narrante setting[25] as Galarej and Le Case, with a lower price point and quieter atmosphere.
Casa di Langa
The "if you want a proper resort" option — 42 ha of UNESCO countryside, 39 rooms and suites, an architect-built modern compound rather than a restoration[11]. Address is Località Talloria 1, Cerretto Langhe[10]. Michelin Green Star plus Green Globe certification[12]; on-site Fàula restaurant, Lelòse Spa with organic treatments, wine academy, truffle hunting. Castle of Serralunga is 3.9 km away.
Hotel Castello di Sinio
9 suites + 5 rooms inside a restored 12th-century castle, with some suites in the original tower or former chapel[8]. Wine Enthusiast called it the Langhe benchmark when it opened in 2005[9]. Owner-chef Denise Pardini (Italian-American, runs the kitchen herself) sets the personal-hospitality tone. Pool, sauna, gym; ranked #2 small hotel in Italy on TripAdvisor 2016–2018. Sinio is ~9 km / ~12 min from Monforte and a comparable hop from Serralunga[19].
RÉVA Resort
Opened September 2017 in a renovated vineyard farm. Twelve rooms in natural materials and muted tones; spa built into the estate's old wine cellars; 9-hole golf course; indoor pool with panoramic windows[14]. Useful angle if you're combining La Rei Natura with another Michelin night: in-house FRE restaurant has held a Michelin star for five consecutive years[13].
Palás Cerequio
Owned by the historic Michele Chiarlo winery, billed as the first relais devoted to the Barolo crus[16]. Nine suites only — four "Past" suites echoing 18th-century noble-palace décor, five "Future" suites in stripped-back minimalism[15]. Skybar, horizontal/vertical Barolo-cru tastings, and a position right inside the Cerequio vineyard.
Castello di Guarene ⚠ outer edge
Relais & Châteaux 18th-century castle, former summer residence of the Counts of Roero on the site of a medieval fortress[18]. Fifteen individually furnished rooms with period furniture, wall frescoes, antique Chinese tapestries, marble bathrooms; spa and indoor pool literally carved into the rock[17]. The grandest "wow" option — at 20 km it's the outer edge of taxi range, but on a clear evening the view back across the Roero from the terrace is the trade.
How to pick
| If your priority is… | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Walk-back-after-dinner short taxi | Tota Virginia, Galarej, Le Case, Foresteria | All in Serralunga d'Alba commune — 3–5 min hops[1] |
| Castle/historic drama | Castello di Sinio (10 min) or Castello di Guarene (22 min) | 12th- and 18th-century fortifications respectively[8][18] |
| Wine-immersion / cellar tours | Palás Cerequio or any Villaggio Narrante property | Cerequio is a working Chiarlo cru; Fontanafredda runs cellar tours through its 19th-century vaults[15][7] |
| Resort amenities (kids, spa, lounging) | Casa di Langa | Only true 5-star resort scale in the cluster (39 rooms, 42 ha, golf-adjacent)[11] |
| Two-Michelin weekend (La Rei + a star at the hotel) | RÉVA Resort | FRE keeps a Michelin star year after year[13] |
| Tiny / personal / chef-run | Castello di Sinio (14) or Palás Cerequio (9 suites) | Both are owner-driven; Sinio's Pardini does the cooking[8][15] |
Booking notes
- Saturday-dinner timing. La Rei Natura is the only restaurant promoted to 3 Michelin stars in the 2026 guide[2] — both the restaurant and the in-cluster hotels will tighten through 2026. Book lodging the moment the table is confirmed.
- Truffle season (Oct–Dec). All nine properties price-jump and sell out around the Alba Truffle Fair — assume +30–60% and 2-night minimums.
- Taxi: pre-book both directions. LangheInTaxi / NCC Bellero operates 06:00–23:00[22]; a tasting menu ending after 23:00 means the return ride must be arranged in advance via Taxi Barolo or via Il Boscareto's concierge[23].
- Walking option. Tota Virginia (~1.5 km from Il Boscareto) and the Villaggio Narrante cluster (~2–3 km) are technically walkable in daylight on the via Roddino back roads — at night, take the car.
