Decision. For a Saturday night after Castor (Kortrijkseweg 164, 8791 Beveren-Leie, two Michelin stars in the 2026 Guide[1][2]): book Kasteel Ter Wallen in Izegem (12 km, actual 1906 castle, 6 rooms, from ~€204)[4][5][6] if you want the trip-anchoring landmark. Pick B&B Broel 4 (Kortrijk, 8 km, listed brewery on the Lys)[7] or Hotel Messeyne (Kortrijk, 8 km, classified monument with spiral stone staircase)[8][9] if you’d rather wake up in a walkable city centre. Skip the Hotel T / ParkHotel / Blue Woods tier — comfortable but generic. Taxi back is fine: Waregem and Beveren-Leie operators run 24/7.[17][18]
Geography
Castor sits on the Kortrijkseweg in Beveren-Leie, postcode 8791 — administratively part of Waregem.[2] There are no B&Bs inside Beveren-Leie itself; bedandbreakfast.eu’s village page is just an index of stays in the neighbouring municipalities (Waregem, Deerlijk, Wielsbeke, Anzegem).[16] Castor’s own “stay the night” page lists nine recommendations across a 4–20 km arc and is the authoritative distance reference used below.[3]
The character shortlist
| Property | Town | km from Castor | Character anchor | Rooms | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kasteel Ter Wallen | Izegem | 12 | 1906 neo-Flemish Renaissance castle on 4 ha forest; pool + jacuzzi | 6 | [4] [5] [6] |
| Hotel Messeyne | Kortrijk | 8 | Classified monument, spiral stone staircase, bare-beam rooms, art-deco bar | 28 | [8] [9] |
| B&B Broel 4 | Kortrijk | 8 | Listed ‘Tack’ city brewery on the Lys; 4 themed rooms (Gold/Black/Green/Blue) | 4 | [7] |
| Villami | Vichte | 9.6 | Renovated villa, themed rooms (Boho / Oriental / Vichte), seasonal pool | ~5 | [11] [12] |
| Hoeve La Cascina | Zulte | 20 | Rural farm conversion, private sauna + hot tub + hammam | ~4 | [13] |
| La Maison des Papillons | Deerlijk | 4 | Closest stay; spa, year-round outdoor pool, hot tub, garden | ~5 | [14] |
| De Pethaan | Wielsbeke | ~5 | “Nearly dilapidated cottage transformed into a jewel”; family-run farm | 3 | [15] |
| Hotel T | Waregem | 7 | Boutique, design-forward but not heritage; rooms named Roomy/Homey/Cozy/Cutie | ~12 | [10] |
Distances are Castor’s own measurements[3]; De Pethaan’s ~5 km is geographic (Wielsbeke is contiguous with Beveren-Leie), not Castor-listed.
What you’re actually choosing between
Kasteel Ter Wallen — the headline pick
A genuine castle, not a “castle hotel”. Built 1906 by textile entrepreneur Joseph Van Naemen on the site of the medieval De Rode Poort farmstead, designed by Walter Vercoutere of Bureau Technique Vercoutere in Ghent.[5] Six rooms, four hectares of forest, swimming pool with a view, jacuzzi.[4] Rates from ~€204 per night — high end of the local market but the only option here that sells “stay in a castle” as a literal description.[6] 12 km to Castor → ~€20–25 taxi each way.
Hotel Messeyne vs. B&B Broel 4 — heritage Kortrijk
Both are 8 km from Castor and both occupy heritage buildings in central Kortrijk. They differ in scale, not in character density.
- Messeyne — 28 rooms in a classified monument; the spiral stone staircase and bare-beam guestrooms are the architectural signature, with an art-deco bar geared to “cigar and whisky aficionados”.[9] Address: Groeningestraat 17, five minutes from Grote Markt.[8] Choose this if you want a full hotel operation (gym, hammam, gourmet restaurant on site).
- Broel 4 — 4 rooms inside the listed ‘Tack’ brewery on Broelkaai, directly on the Lys with a waterfront sun terrace. Each room individually decorated and named for its colour.[7] Choose this if you want a small, owner-run feel with a stronger sense of “you’re sleeping in the building’s history”.
Closer but less unique — La Maison des Papillons and De Pethaan
If you want to minimise the taxi (and the post-dinner travel time), La Maison des Papillons in Deerlijk is 4 km from Castor, 5/5 on TripAdvisor, with spa, year-round outdoor pool, hot tub and outdoor fireplace.[14] The character is hospitality-driven rather than architectural — a well-run modern B&B, not a heritage building.
De Pethaan in Wielsbeke is the under-the-radar option: a derelict farm cottage rebuilt by PETer, HAns and ANneleen, three double rooms, family-run, geographically the closest after La Maison des Papillons but not on Castor’s official list.[15] Worth a look if those two book up.
Wildcards
- Villami (Vichte, 9.6 km) — themed rooms (Boho, Oriental, Vichte), salon with fireplace, seasonal pool. Aesthetic-led rather than heritage-led but Castor calls it “stylish between two rivers”.[3][11]
- Hoeve La Cascina (Zulte, 20 km) — the outlier on distance. Rural farm conversion with a serious wellness fit-out (sauna, hot tub, hammam, massages).[13] 20 km is still taxi-feasible (≈€35–45 each way) but only worth it for the spa angle.
What to skip
Hotel T (Waregem, 7 km) is repeatedly described as “boutique” and “design-led” but its calling-card is a meeting venue with multifunctional event spaces, not heritage — rooms are styled, not historic.[10] The same applies to ParkHotel Waregem and Blue Woods (Deerlijk, 5 km, “modern hotel close to the E17 exit”[3]) — fine if you only need a bed, but they don’t pay back the trip’s premise.
Taxi logistics
Two operators serve the corridor 24/7, both will pick up from Beveren-Leie and the restaurant directly: Taxi Waregem City[17] and Waregemse Taxi[18]. Book the return for ~22:30–23:00 when you book the table — Castor’s last seating runs late and Saturday-night demand spikes. From Castor: Deerlijk ~4 km, Waregem ~7 km, Kortrijk ~8 km, Izegem ~12 km, Zulte ~20 km.[3]
