Decision — Most distinctive Het Zoute villa: Hotel Britannia, a 1928 Anglo-Norman manor fully renovated in 2022, 5 min by taxi [3] [4]. Grand 1930s landmark, just reborn: La Réserve, 5★ superior reopened 2023 after a Glenn Sestig overhaul [9] [10]. Design-led splurge: cross the NL border to Strandhotel Cadzand, interiors by Studio Piet Boon, 17 min taxi [14] [15] [18].

Cuines 33 is at Smedenstraat 33 in central Knokke (≈160 m from Knokke station), promoted to two MICHELIN Stars in the 2026 Belgium & Luxembourg guide [1] [2]. “Taxi range” below means ≤ ~17 min one-way: that covers all of Het Zoute, Albertstrand, Duinbergen, plus the dune hotels of Cadzand-Bad and Sluis just over the Dutch border [18].

Knokke side — Het Zoute & Albertstrand

La Réserve — 5★ superior, opposite the Knokke casino (Albertstrand)

The Knokke landmark on the casino boulevard reopened in 2023 after architect Glenn Sestig restored it to a 1930s register: light-filled interiors in eucalyptus and onyx marble, an Art Deco bar with crystal sconces and red velvet banquettes [10]. 37 rooms, spa, indoor pool, La Rigue restaurant [9] [19]. Pick this if you want the most architecturally serious stay on the Belgian side and a sub-5-minute taxi to Cuines 33.

Hotel Britannia — 4★, Elizabetlaan 85 (Het Zoute)

“Gem of Anglo-Norman coastal architecture” — a 1928 villa by architect Buylaert, white-beige-brown facade with gold accents, completely renovated in 2022 by the second-generation family owners [4]. 26 spacious rooms with English-style décor; a library lounge anchors the public spaces, 100 m from the beach [3] [19]. The default pick for travellers who want a villa-feel without 5★ pricing.

Hotel Pavillon du Zoute — 4★, Bronlaan 4 (Het Zoute)

Sister-aged to Britannia: a 1923 Anglo-Norman villa with a south-facing English garden, two lounges, an indoor pool and a restaurant on-site [7] [8]. 39 rooms makes it the largest Norman-villa option; reviews split between “tasty restaurant, beautiful garden” and ⚠ inconsistent room-condition complaints [8].

Manoir du Dragon — 4★, Albertlaan 73 (Het Zoute)

Smallest of the four-star villas — just 16 individually decorated rooms, several with private terraces or fireplaces [6]. Sits directly next to the Royal Zoute golf course. Rated 9.2/10 across 103 reviews with very high marks for cleanliness (9.6) and comfort (9.4) [5]. Pick this if you want intimate manor-house energy over hotel-scale amenity.

Auberge St. Pol — 3★ superior, Bronlaan 23 (Het Zoute)

A painted-brick villa “in peaceful surroundings”, recently re-done in a modern eco-design [11]. Polo paintings and bird art give it a quirky, owner-curated feel; superior and deluxe rooms get private terraces or balconies, breakfast buffet is exceptional, secure e-bike storage and chargers on-site [20]. 8.9/10 on Booking — the best value-for-character pick in Het Zoute [20].

Lebeau 19 — 3★, Zoutelaan 175 (Het Zoute)

26-room contemporary boutique under the Livingroom group; calming neutral interiors, on-site bar/brasserie, garden terrace, free private parking, walkable to Zwin Nature Reserve and four golf courses [12] [13]. The most “design-modern” option that’s still on the Belgian side.

Dutch side — Cadzand-Bad & Sluis (the architectural payoff)

The drive Knokke ↔ Cadzand-Bad is ~14 km / ~17 min by car [18] — easily inside taxi range, and the design ambition jumps a level once you cross the border.

Strandhotel Cadzand — 4★, dune-front

Studio Piet Boon designed both the interiors and the in-room furniture — minimalist neutral palette, floor-to-ceiling windows, Auping boxspring beds, private balcony or terrace in every room [14] [15]. Heated indoor pool, saunas. Comfort rooms from €155, suites from €275, tower-suite sea view from €395 [14]. The defining stay for travellers who care about contemporary architecture.

Hotel Noordzee — 4★, Noordzeestraat 2, on the dunes

Individually designed rooms in a New England-inspired maritime palette (white, blue, sand); guests consistently highlight the “personality” of staff and the spa landscape — two saunas, steam bath, pool [16]. Pick this over Strandhotel if you prefer warm/maritime over minimalist/Piet Boon.

De Lindenhoeve — boutique B&B + restaurant, Sluis (NL)

A converted family farmhouse in walled-town Sluis, transformed into 8 themed rooms plus a separate “lodge”, with French/seafood restaurant on-site honouring “Tante Germaine” [17]. 5-min walk to Sluis centre; ~12–15 min taxi to Cuines 33. The non-coastal alternative — pick this if you want hinterland character over a sea view.
