Decision. On a 3–4 day visit, take zero ferry day trips. The one boat worth a day is a local Naxos day cruise (Agia Anna 09:30→17:30, Rina cave + Schinoussa/Iraklia, from €93.60) [1] — you get the Small Cyclades water without the ferry-timetable tax. Everything else burns 4–6 hours in ports and boats to buy 3 hours ashore. If you insist on one island, make it Paros — 10+ crossings/day, 20–45 min, from €5.70, so a missed boat isn’t a lost night [2].

Traps
- Skopelitis as a day trip. It leaves Naxos at 14:00–14:30 and only returns the following midday — Iraklia, Schinoussa and Donousa are overnight destinations, not day trips [6].
- Santorini. ~€120 pp return for 4–6 hours in the day-tripper crush, on the vessel class the meltemi cancels first [12] [5].
- Delos+Mykonos. ⚠ The Naxos SeaBus is a transfer, not a tour — no guide, Delos entry paid on arrival, ~10 hours for ~3 hours of ruins [9].
- Mid-July to August, meltemi hits 7–8 Beaufort and high-speed catamarans cancel at short notice — never put a day trip on the day before your flight [5].
