Fare trap · the airport zoneThe airport metro is a separate zone starting at Doukissis Plakentias: €9 single, €16 return. A normal €1.20 city ticket will not open the barrier. ^[24]

Fare trap · the €40 flat fareThe airport taxi flat fare covers central Athens only. Piraeus sits outside the zone, so the meter runs: €50–58 by day. The X96 alternative runs 24 h from between Exits 4 and 5, every 30–40 min. ^[11] ^[12]

If it cancels EU Regulation 1177/2010 gives you a choice of “reimbursement of your ticket within seven days, or re-routing to your final destination under comparable conditions at the earliest opportunity, at no extra cost.” ^[9] Weather is an extraordinary circumstance, so the operator owes you the fare or a seat — not your hotel, not your missed flight ^[9]. Refunds are not automatic: request one and keep the cancellation notice. Operators notify by email or SMS ^[7].

⚠ The catamaran trade is worse than it looks. In a July or August meltemi the ~€35 the fast boat saves you against the flight buys the rougher ride and the higher cancellation odds ^[23] ^[10].

Santorini, the island end of the ATH–JTR hop

The island end is where the saving leaks. Santorini airport wants 1 h before a carry-on-only departure and 2 h+ with checked bags, and about 40 taxis serve the whole island at €30–45 to Fira or Oia ^[22].
