TL;DR — SingleThread sits in Healdsburg, the hub of three wine valleys; almost everything worth doing is a 10–30-minute drive.[28] Pick by mood:

Wine & food → tasting in Dry Creek Valley (Ridge, Preston) + lunch at Dry Creek General Store.[1][4][43]

Nature → old-growth redwoods at Armstrong Redwoods (~28 min) or trails + a swim at Lake Sonoma (~19 min).[11][13]

River → self-guided canoe with Russian River Adventures, 1 km from the restaurant ($80).[20]

Active → the West Dry Creek Road loop, the area's classic ride (24 mi).[51]

Anchor first: SingleThread releases tables at 9am PST on the 1st for the following month, prepaid and non-refundable — book before planning anything else.[60]

Saturday game-plan around the dinner. Dinner is a single nightly window — Saturday service runs ~4:00–8:45 pm and the 10-course Kaiseki menu needs a minimum 2.5 hours,[61][60] so daytime is yours:
  1. Morning: a paddle or a redwood walk (both finish by early afternoon).
  2. Early afternoon: back to town, clean up; stroll the Plaza shops/galleries.[28]
  3. ~5–6 pm: arrive at SingleThread with buffer; park in a free city lot (Lot A, 300+ stalls).[58]
If you want to drink at wineries, book a driver (Private Wine Drivers, $645–$845/group) or a join-in tour, and keep it to the morning/early afternoon so you're clear-headed for the pairings.[53]

Wineries & tasting rooms

All three of Healdsburg's AVAs are within 25 minutes. Dry Creek = Zinfandel & Rhône; Alexander Valley = Cabernet; Russian River (Westside Rd) = Pinot & Chardonnay. Reservations are the norm; fees below are 2026 list prices, usually waived for club members.

Russian River — paddling, beaches & tubing

The river is the summer playground, and it runs right through town. The swimming lagoon at Memorial Beach only forms once the seasonal dam goes in (completed by July 3, 2026) — so an early-June visit is prime for paddling, a bit early for the dammed swim hole.[23]

Cycling, guided tours & logistics

Ride. Two anchor shops are a short walk from the Plaza: Wine Country Bikes (hybrids $49, road $79–$99, e-bikes $75/day) and Spoke Folk Cyclery (est. 1976; phone reservations).[49][50] The signature loop is West Dry Creek Road → Dry Creek Road (23.7 mi, 650 ft, ~2¼ h, low traffic — the area's most scenic); the Russian River Valley loop (22.8 mi, Westside/Eastside) is the flatter Pinot-country alternative.[51][52]

Drink without driving. Private Wine Drivers runs private 6-hour tours for up to six at $645–$845/group; Platypus join-in tours are $129 (Fri)/$139 (Sat) with picnic lunch, tasting fees (~$20–25) extra.[53][54] SingleThread also publishes its own Scenic Drives guide for guests.[63]
