Decision (weekend in Stockholm):

Want the 3-star headline? Book Frantzén[1] for a Tuesday–Friday lunch or dinner — they don't serve weekends, so anchor a Thu–Sun or Wed–Sat trip[6].

Want a true Saturday-night Michelin dinner? Book AIRA on Djurgården — 2 stars, open Tue–Sat, half the price of Frantzén[5][4].

⚠ Aloë (★★) is paused since Feb 9 2025 after co-founder Daniel Höglander's death — not bookable for your trip[9].

⚠ The 2026 Nordic Michelin Guide ceremony is 1 June 2026 in Copenhagen[11]. Star counts below reflect the 2025 guide and could shift two days after this artifact's date.

The current state

Stockholm has exactly one ★★★ and (operationally) one ★★ right now. On paper the 2025 Nordic guide listed three 2-and-3-star houses — Frantzén, AIRA and Aloë[8] — but Aloë has been closed since 9 February 2025 after founder Daniel Höglander died at 45 just before Christmas 2024[9]. A separate ★★, Oaxen Krog, closed earlier[8]. So for a weekend that's actually bookable: Frantzén and AIRA.

Frantzén ★★★

Klara Norra Kyrkogata 26, Norrmalm · Björn Frantzén (founder), head chef Charlie Benitez[2]

Sweden's only three-star — first earned the third star in February 2018[2]. The format is a deliberately choreographed move through the 19th-century townhouse: aperitifs and canapés in an upstairs lounge, the main meal at a counter ringed around an open kitchen on a lower floor, then coffee and petit fours back in the lounge[6]. Menu is "Nordic cuisine with a touch of Japanese elegance"[7]; signatures include the French toast with truffle and aged cheese (on the menu since 2008) and chawanmushi with king crab and foie gras[6].

  • Practical: 23 seats across 3 floors / 521 m²[7]. Tasting menu ~5,500 SEK per guest, same menu at lunch and dinner[14].
  • How to book: Reservations for the next month open on the 1st at 10:00 Stockholm time — set a calendar reminder; demand is heavy[14].
  • Weekend warning: Closed Sat–Mon. For a Sat–Sun weekend trip, your only Frantzén window is a Friday lunch or Friday dinner — fly in Thursday, dinner Friday, leave Sunday.[6]

AIRA ★★

Biskopsvägen 9, Royal Djurgården · Tommy Myllymäki and Pi Le[3]

Waterfront on Biskopsudden in Stockholm's royal park; promoted from one to two stars in 2023[1]. Tommy Myllymäki's cooking is "driven by the water and backed by Sweden's natural larder"[3] — seasonal Nordic produce treated with global techniques. The dining room is small and architectural with glass walls onto the water.

  • Menu: 13-course tasting (5 appetizers + 5 mains + 3 desserts) at 3,950 SEK; wine pairings tier from 1,100 SEK non-alcoholic up to 6,500 SEK "Connoisseur"[4].
  • Service: Tue–Sat dinner from 18:00; Thu–Sat lunch from 12:00 (regular schedule). Summer weeks 26–33 shift to Wed–Fri dinner and Sat lunch+dinner. Closed 19–20 June[5].
  • Why this is the weekend pick: The only Stockholm 2-or-3-star that actually serves on Saturday[5]. Book via the form at aira.se or +46 8 480 049 00.
  • Format options: Main room seats parties up to 6; Chef's Table 2–8; private dining room up to 14[3].

Aloë ★★ — paused

Svartlösavägen 52, Älvsjö · Niclas Jönsson (Daniel Höglander, d. 23 Dec 2024)[9]

The 25-seat ★★ in suburban Älvsjö, hidden beneath an old grocery store, has been closed since 9 February 2025 after Daniel Höglander died at 45 just before Christmas 2024[9][12]. The team has stated they need time to "gather, heal and recover" with no fixed reopening date[9]. The basement sister concept Rinos continues to operate[9]. Don't plan your trip around Aloë reopening; treat any news as a happy surprise.

Booking tactics

  • Frantzén — be early, be flexible. The 1st-of-month, 10:00 local drop is the only window; the entire month sells out fast[14]. If your weekend is Sat–Sun, target Friday lunch (easier to land than Friday dinner) so the dinner-only crowd isn't competing with you.
  • AIRA — slightly less pressure but still book weeks ahead. Online booking through aira.se; the room is small (≤6 guests in the regular room) so Saturday slots evaporate[3].
  • Watch 1 June 2026. The Nordic 2026 guide ceremony in Copenhagen could promote a current ★ to ★★ (Ekstedt, Adam/Albin, Operakällaren, or Sushi Sho are the candidates worth checking)[11], or — less likely — change Frantzén or AIRA's count.
