Itinerary · Two nights · One Michelin anchor

München.

An hour-by-hour weekend planner built around a Saturday-night Michelin anchor, with sights, biergartens and one day-trip swap pre-decided.

Plan rule · 01

Anchor the Michelin dinner on Saturday night. None of Munich's six top-tier rooms open Sunday, JAN also skips Saturday — five of the six (Tohru, Tantris, KOMU, Alois, Atelier) serve Saturday [★]. Saturday-evening lock makes Friday a walking arrival day and Sunday a short morning + departure.

Hour by hour

Walking distances assumed; everything in blue is a sight, gold is food, green is biergarten, gray is transit, purple is museum, red is the anchor.

Friday · Arrival
Land, drop bags, walk the Altstadt loop. End in a beer hall, not a kitchen — Saturday gets the kitchen.
14:00arrive
Transit · MUC → Hbf
S1 or S8 (~40 min)
10-min combined interval; airport is MVV zone 5 so you need an M-5 ticket [90] [92]. Bus alternative: Lufthansa Express Bus every 20 min [91].
15:30drop bags
Base · Lehel or Altstadt
Check in, then walk
Lehel is airier and quieter, Museum Mile on Prinzregentenstr. [4]. Altstadt puts Marienplatz at your door [1].
16:30sight
Sight · 15 min
Time the 17:00 chime (extra show Mar–Oct) [9]. Watch one verse, move on — the wait is famously a tax some travellers reject [10].
Marienplatz with Glockenspiel
17:30sleeper hit
Sight · 15 min · free
10 min south of Marienplatz on Sendlinger Str. — a private rococo chapel by the Asam brothers, tiny and over-the-top [24].
Asamkirche interior detail
18:15graze
Food · Mon–Sat only
Leberkäs-Semmel at the Metzgerzeile butcher row, Brezn, Obatzda [59]. The market biergarten in the centre rotates all 6 city breweries every 5–6 weeks [50].
Viktualienmarkt stalls
19:30stroll
Sight · 20 min · free
Renaissance pocket-park next to the Residenz — a breather, not a destination [26]. Skip the museum interior tonight; book a Saturday morning if you want it (€10, combo €15) [11].
20:30first beer
Beer hall · daily 10–24
The 1328 brewery's city tavern, Jugendstil rooms, hidden back biergarten. Locals' pick over Hofbräuhaus — though the latter is "must do at least once" [54] [55].
22:30nightcap
Beer hall · optional
Tap 7, Aventinus, the full Schneider wheat range — more local-feeling than Hofbräuhaus, at Tal 7 near Marienplatz [56].
Walking: ~4 km · all Altstadt Eat light — kitchen's tomorrow
30
Saturday · Anchor day
Front-load museums + Englischer Garten, then home to change. Evening belongs to the kitchen.
09:00breakfast
Food · daily
Rischart at Marienplatz
Marienplatz 18, reportedly Germany's most-visited bakery branch. Sourdough, Brezn, breakfast platters [60].
10:00main museum
Art · 2–3 h · Tue–Sun
World's largest Blue Rider holding — 90 Kandinskys plus Marc, Münter, Klee from the 1957 Münter bequest [33]. Sat: 10–18 [34]. The single most distinctive art museum in town [44].
Lenbachhaus collection — Jawlensky
12:30bonus
Art · 1.5 h · optional
Next door — 170+ Cy Twombly works including the Lepanto cycle on the whole upper floor [35]. Skip and head straight to the Eisbach if Lenbachhaus filled you up.
14:00lunch
Food · cash only
Prälat-Zistl-Str. 8 — lard-fried Auszogne, cult Munich snack near Viktualienmarkt. Cash only [58].
15:00sight
Sight · 15 min · free
Bridge by Haus der Kunst on Prinzregentenstr. — the world's most consistent city-centre river-surf wave, reopened May 2026 after a year of closure [16]. Watching from the bridge is free and unrestricted.

15:30stroll
Park + half-Maß · 90 min
Walk north from the Eisbach. 7,000-seat biergarten with rotating brass bands, Steckerlfisch and Hendl [48]. One small Maß only — the kitchen tonight is serious.

Back to base, shower, change
Most top-tier dining rooms expect smart-casual or jacket; check the venue's page.

Your starred dinner
JAN (Maxvorstadt, near the museums) pairs naturally with this afternoon. Tantris (Schwabing) pairs with the English Garden. Tohru / KOMU / Alois / Atelier sit in the Altstadt within 10 min of Marienplatz. See the six picks →
23:00optional
Beer hall · nightcap
Schneider Bräuhaus or hotel bar
If the meal felt over-architectural, a single Aventinus at Tal 7 corrects the palate.
Walking: ~6 km Hold the anchor at 19:30

Sunday · Short morning + out
Most museums shut Mon, but Viktualienmarkt is shut Sun. Pick a high vantage and a Sunday biergarten lunch.
09:30tradition
Food · before noon
Weisswurst breakfast
"White sausages don't hear the 12 o'clock chime" — a pre-refrigeration rule still widely honoured [57]. Take them at Schneider or Augustiner Stammhaus.
11:30opens late
Sight · 30 min · €7.50
89 steps + lift to a 360° deck; Alps visible on a clear day [18]. Sun opens 11:30, last ascent 16:30 [19].
Frauenkirche twin onion towers
13:00lunch
Biergarten · Sun OK
Augustiner-Keller (Arnulfstr. 52) — Munich's oldest, 5,000 seats, Edelstoff straight from the wooden barrel [45]. Hirschgarten is bigger (8,000, the world's largest), fewer tourists, a deer paddock alongside [47].
15:30depart
Transit · Hbf → MUC
S1 or S8 (~40 min)
Same 10-min combined interval the other direction [90]. Lufthansa Express Bus is the swap if you've got luggage and prefer a single seat [91].
Walking: ~2 km Avoid: Viktualienmarkt shut Sun [20]
